Saturday 8th December, Starts at 10:30 am & 2:00 pm
London Metropolitan Archives
40 Northampton Road, EC1R 0HB
Join Jan and Stephanie for the Kenric day at the LMA. There are two different sessions; one in the morning and one in the afternoon with a tour at lunchtime.
10:30 am: Arrival and coffee.
11:00 am: The session starts with a talk about women in the Archive, featuring Charlotte Charke (January 1713 – 6 April 1760). Charlotte was an English actress, playwright, novelist, autobiographer, and noted transvestite. She acted on the stage from the age of 17, mainly in breeches roles, and took to wearing male clothing off the stage.
The next topic will look at women who have used the Archive, e.g. Sarah Waters, Jill Gardiner.
After coffee we will talk about Kenric in the Archive and what material we have etc.
12:30 pm: We will explore original documents in the Archive including Kenric, Drill Hall, GLC and other relevant organisations.
Lunch: From about 12:50 pm. Over lunchtime there will be an opportunity to go on a tour behind the scenes when you can see, among other things, where and how documents are stored.
2:00 pm: The afternoon is a separate event and will feature readings from the anthology ‘We Want To Tell You How …’ and activities around writing your own poems and short stories.
