LESBIAN WALKING BREAKS
Hi, I’m Sue, and I recently started organizing Lesbian Walking Breaks around the UK. The aim is to create a platform for a relaxed and informal get-together to walk, eat, drink and explore beautiful areas over a few days, (including weekends). This began just over a year ago and, with much helpful feedback and various suggestions from women who’ve joined the breaks, ‘Striding Out’ is evolving and growing! The message is being spread through various lesbian walking and social groups, by word of mouth and also with the help of a Facebook group.
There have been six Walking Breaks in 2016, attended by a total of about 70 women – these have all been a success with great walking, lots of laughs and new friendships made.
It’s very inclusive, flexible and friendly, and the walks, with a qualified leader, are at a comfortable pace for the group (up to six or up to eight miles a day depending on the break and location). They’re not arduous or obligatory and it’s fine to stay in bed or do your own thing!
The group size is about 8 – 12 and most women come alone; a few come with a friend or partner. The accommodation (and hence the price) varies: from B and B’s or small quality hotels to largish holiday houses – and there’s also a comfortable hostel on one break (single occupancy rooms are still available, though!)
For 2017, eleven more Walking Breaks are planned – there’s lots of interest, with a number of places being reserved and one break is already full. These are the 2017 venues:
- North Norfolk Coast (April)
- Lake District (May)
- Gower Coast , South Wales (June and July)
- Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire (July)
- Shropshire Hills (August)
- Wye Valley (September)
A ‘Walking Breaks Programme’ with more info about what to expect, and updates, can be sent to you by email. This info is also posted in the ‘Striding Out’ (closed, so private) Facebook group, which you’re welcome to join (just send a request). This Facebook page gives an idea of the set-up with lots of photos of the breaks that have already taken place. (There are several groups with the ‘Striding Out’ name – to find it, it’s the one with about 250 members.)

Many thanks and hope to meet you in 2017!
